Sylvester StalloneMARCH 6, 2010 — On Saturday, we were blessed by having a special guest. Sylvester Stallone made a surprise appearance. We presented to him a sabre autographed by Olympians Mariel Zagunis and Tim Morehouse.

Stallone, known most famously for his portrayal of Rocky Balboa, spoke to the crowd about how he took fencing when he was in high school. He was a budding sabrist and said that he loved fencing. He spent some time talking about how great fencing was, what it gave to him and how he loved fencing even more than boxing. He told the group that fencing was “one of the best sports in the world.” We couldn’t agree more.

He did footwork and a few cuts with his autographed sabre and then saluted the crowd.

At the Arnold Fencing Classic we are blessed to a part of such a great event with the unending support of the event’s namesake, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold brought “Rocky” to the festival to receive a lifetime achievement award. We think Stallone’s great comments and view on fencing was an even greater gift.

Thanks, Sly.
